Students of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) have once again achieved international recognition by promoting the spirit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the International SDGs Youth Development Program. The competition, organized by the International Youth Innovation Summit in collaboration with the International Youth Excursion Network, was held in Malaysia from May 18–21, 2026.

More than just a competition, the program served as a global collaboration platform where young people developed practical solutions to address sustainable development challenges. Participants were encouraged to present innovations aligned with the SDGs, covering areas such as education, economic development, and community empowerment.

One notable contribution came from Mytha Nur Anggrainy, a 2023 Development Economics student at USU, who joined an inter-university team alongside Muhammad Azmi Auf from Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Kalijaga and Nur Ikhlas from Universitas Al-Azhar Indonesia.

The team focused on SDG 4: Quality Education by introducing EDUFUND (Education Funding), a crowdfunding-based platform designed to address educational access disparities in Indonesia, particularly in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions.

Through a technology-driven and community-centered approach, EDUFUND aims to strengthen an inclusive and sustainable educational ecosystem. The funds raised are intended not only to support school operational needs but also to improve teacher welfare and enhance educational facilities and infrastructure, reflecting the SDG principles of equity and inclusion.

Beyond functioning as a donation platform, EDUFUND emphasizes transparency and accountability. Features such as program-based donations, real-time reporting, and impact-tracking mechanisms allow contributors to directly monitor the outcomes of their support. This approach embodies the principles of good governance while fostering greater public trust in sustainable development initiatives.

For their innovative project, the team achieved outstanding success by winning two prestigious awards: 1st Best Project Innovation and 1st Best Presentation. These accomplishments highlight not only the quality of the team's ideas but also demonstrate that SDG-oriented solutions developed by Indonesian youth are capable of competing on the global stage.

According to Mytha, her participation in the program was driven by a desire to contribute meaningfully to the sustainable development agenda. She viewed the competition as an opportunity to enhance her skills while building confidence in presenting ideas capable of creating tangible social impact.

Guided by the spirit of the SDGs, this achievement reflects the strategic role of Indonesia’s younger generation as agents of change in promoting inclusive, equitable, and sustainable development. Through innovations such as EDUFUND, the vision of equal access to quality education moves beyond aspiration and becomes a concrete step toward a better future for all.
