The Undergraduate Program in Entrepreneurship, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sumatera Utara, officially launched the 2025 International Summer Course on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at the Prof. Dr. Suhadji Hadibroto Auditorium, FEB USU.
This year’s theme, “Digital Social Entrepreneurship as a Solution to Regional Social Problems: Leveraging Technology for Sustainable Impact,” emphasized the role of digital-based social entrepreneurship as a solution to regional social issues while promoting sustainable development.
The opening ceremony was attended by various distinguished guests, including the Vice-Rector III of Universitas Sumatera Utara, the Director and Secretary of the Directorate of Internationalization and Global Partnership (DIKG), representatives from the Directorate of Student Achievement and Alumni Relations (Ditmawa), as well as the Dean, Vice Deans, and Heads of Study Programs within FEB USU. Students from the Entrepreneurship, Accounting, Management, and Development Economics study programs were also present, along with international students from Cambodia, Yemen, and Sudan.
The event also featured international speakers from India and Universiti Sains Malaysia, supported by FEB USU lecturers and the organizing committee. The participation of these speakers, international students, and FEB USU’s academic community made the Summer Course an important platform for expanding global academic networks, strengthening international collaboration, and reaffirming FEB USU’s commitment to advancing the internationalization of higher education.

In his opening remarks, the Dean of FEB USU emphasized the relevance of the Summer Course theme to today’s global challenges. He stated, “This year’s Summer Course theme, Digital Social Entrepreneurship as a Solution to Regional Social Problems: Leveraging Technology for Sustainable Impact, is highly relevant to current global challenges. We live in an era where technology and entrepreneurship work hand in hand to address various social issues—from poverty alleviation and women’s empowerment to sustainable community development. Through this program, we aim to demonstrate how digital innovation can transform local challenges into global opportunities with lasting impact.”
He further appreciated the diversity of participants and speakers, emphasizing that, “The presence of academics, practitioners, and international students reflects our shared commitment to knowledge exchange and global collaboration. I encourage all participants to engage actively, build networks, and think critically about how entrepreneurship can serve as a solution to both regional and global challenges.”
The 2025 Summer Course marked the beginning of a series of public lectures, interactive discussions, workshops, and study tours to Lake Toba and Samosir Island. Through this program, students are expected not only to gain academic knowledge but also to acquire practical experience and inspiration to become innovative young sociopreneurs capable of contributing to sustainable development at local, regional, and global levels.
