USU Delegation Engages in the 26th National Accounting Symposium in Ternate

The 26th National Accounting Symposium (SNA XXVI) held in Ternate, North Maluku, served as a strategic forum for academics, practitioners, and students to discuss strengthening the role of the accounting profession in supporting a sustainable national economy.
The 26th National Accounting Symposium (Simposium Nasional Akuntansi / SNA XXVI) was successfully held on September 19–21, 2023, in Ternate City, North Maluku, under the theme “Strengthening the Accounting Profession and Business Entities in Supporting a Sustainable National Economy.” This event served as a forum for academics, practitioners, and students from various universities across Indonesia to discuss developments in accounting and the strategic role of the accounting profession in supporting sustainable economic growth.
One of the participating delegations came from the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FEB USU), consisting of Dr. Rina Br. Bukit, S.E., M.Si., Ak., CA; Dio Agung Herubawa, S.E., M.Acc; Munawarah, S.E., M.Si; Dr. Narumondang Bulan Siregar, M.M., Ak., CA; Prof. Dr. Iskandar Muda, S.E., Ak., M.Si., CA, CSRS, CSRA; Dr. Keulana Erwin, S.E., M.Si., Ak.; Dr. Abdillah Arif Nasution, S.E., M.Si., Ak., CA., QGIA, CHRS; and one student, Fenny Julistine Tarigan. The delegation participated in the full series of academic activities conducted over the three-day symposium.
The event commenced with an official opening, which included participant registration, the signing of cooperation agreements, and panel discussions addressing strategic issues in the field of accounting. Participants then engaged in various agendas, including community service initiatives by the accounting profession, discussions on IFRS S1 and IFRS S2 sustainability reporting standards, as well as issues related to accreditation and the development of accounting education. On the second day, activities focused on parallel paper presentation sessions and academic discussion forums. In these sessions, Prof. Dr. Iskandar Muda served as a reviewer, providing evaluations and feedback on the papers presented by participants.
During the same event, a Master’s student in Accounting from FEB USU, Fenny Julistine Tarigan, successfully presented a paper in a parallel session with the theme of University Social Responsibility (USR). In recognition of the quality of her presentation and academic contribution, she was awarded as one of the best speakers in the session, marking a notable achievement during the symposium.
The event concluded with a gala dinner and closing ceremony, strengthening networking among participants. On the final day, attendees joined a field trip to the Tidore Sultanate Palace as part of cultural and historical exposure, followed by a closing lunch at the Government Office of Tidore City. Through the implementation of SNA XXVI, it is expected that stronger collaboration between academics and practitioners will be established, along with increased contributions from the accounting profession in supporting sustainable national economic development.
