The Master’s and Doctoral Programs in Accounting at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FEB USU), organized a Thesis and Dissertation Writing Workshop on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at the Prof. Dr. Suhadji Hadibroto Hall, FEB USU. The workshop aimed to strengthen the academic quality and research culture among postgraduate students in the Accounting program.
The workshop featured Dr. Saidatunur Fauzi Bin Saidin, a Senior Lecturer from the Department of Accounting and Finance, Universiti Putra Malaysia, as the keynote speaker. During the session, he delivered a lecture titled “Development of Questionnaire Survey & Structural Equation Modeling,” which discussed the development of research instruments and the application of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) in academic research.
The event was attended by postgraduate students (Master’s and Doctoral levels) from the Accounting program who were at various stages of their thesis or dissertation preparation. The workshop also involved academic supervisors and lecturers to provide guidance and facilitate academic discussion.
During the workshop, participants gained insights into several important aspects of research methodology, including questionnaire design, question types, validity and reliability testing, and data analysis using Partial Least Squares SEM (PLS-SEM) and Covariance-Based SEM (CB-SEM) approaches. Participants were also introduced to interpreting statistical results such as reliability, validity, R², Q², and path coefficients, which are essential components in thesis and dissertation research.
This workshop also contributes to FEB USU’s efforts to improve Key Performance Indicator (KPI) 2, which measures the percentage of students actively participating in academic activities outside campus, such as academic conferences, journal publications, and collaborative research projects.
Through this activity, students are expected to produce higher-quality academic research and become better prepared to publish their work in reputable journals and present their research in national and international academic forums.
