MEDAN – The atmosphere in the meeting room of the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) of the Medan City Government was warm and dynamic on Tuesday morning, October 20, 2026, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB). A crucial agenda shaping the direction of regional development policy was under discussion through the presentation of a study entitled “Roadmap for Regional Economic Transformation Toward Inclusive Growth in Medan City.”

Presenting directly before the regional planning officials, the Faculty Team from the Development Economics Study Program consisted of Dr. Wahyu Ario Pratomo, S.E., M.Ec., Dr. Arif Rahman, S.E., M.Ec.Dev., and Khairul Ali Hutasuhut, S.E., M.Si. The three academics brought a comprehensive set of sectoral data, macroeconomic indicator projections, and strategic frameworks aimed at strengthening the economy of Medan City.

During the discussion session, the research team examined the underlying conditions of the regional economy, from its current state to long-term development targets. The discussion emphasized that Medan City’s economic transformation must be guided by the principle of inclusivity, ensuring that the benefits of economic growth are not merely reflected in statistical figures but also reach all segments of society and improve their standard of living.

This synergy between academic thinkers and policymakers represents a tangible example of the implementation of evidence-based policy. The findings of this roadmap study are expected to serve as a strategic compass for the Medan City Government in implementing resilient and sustainable economic development programs.
