Medan – The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FEB USU), continued the series of activities for the International Sustainability Conference (ISC) FEB USU 2026 on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. On the second day, the program featured two learning sessions addressing the potential of local heritage, regional economic development, and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The first session discussed “Local Heritage and Regional Economic Development: Unlocking the Potential of North Sumatra,” delivered by Prof. Dr. Rudy Sofyan, S.S., M.Hum. This session explored local heritage and regional economic development, focusing on the potential of North Sumatra as a resource that can support regional economic development.

Following the first session and a break, the program continued with a presentation entitled “Sustainable Development Goals: Progress, Implementation, and the Role of Internal Control and Risk Management in Practice,” delivered by Prof. Nadia Gulko. The presentation discussed SDG progress and implementation, as well as the role of internal control and risk management in supporting sustainable development practices.
Through these sessions, ISC FEB USU 2026 highlighted the connections between local potential, economic development, governance, and sustainability. The event also served as a learning platform to broaden understanding of the application of sustainability principles in various development contexts.
The event aligns with SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) through its focus on developing regional economic potential, as well as SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) through discussions on internal control and risk management. Thus, ISC FEB USU 2026 also supports the enhancement of academic knowledge concerning inclusive, responsible, and sustainable economic development.
