Medan — The Islamic Economics Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FEB USU), has strengthened its international academic network through collaboration with the Indonesian Association of Islamic Economists (IAEI) Türkiye in organizing SAKİNAH TÜRKİYE 2026: Global Forum on Islamic Finance.
The collaboration is realized through the participation of the Islamic Economics Study Program at FEB USU as an Official Co-Host Partner of the international forum, which carries the theme “Islamic Finance Integration for Global Crisis Resilience.” The conference is scheduled to take place from October 26–28, 2026, in Sakarya and Istanbul, Türkiye, with Sakarya University serving as the main academic venue.
This collaboration forms part of the implementation of the Tridharma of Higher Education, involving the Undergraduate Islamic Economics Study Program at FEB USU. Under the cooperation agreement, FEB USU and IAEI Türkiye have agreed on a range of activities, including participation in the call for papers, academic presentations, academic networking, research and publication collaboration, as well as other academic and institutional activities.
Five Papers to Be Presented at the International Forum
As a concrete form of academic participation in the forum, the Islamic Economics Study Program at FEB USU will submit five papers for presentation at the conference. This participation represents a strategic step toward increasing the international exposure of lecturers and researchers within the Islamic Economics Study Program, while also creating opportunities for research collaboration with academics and institutions from various countries.
The participation of the five papers also demonstrates the commitment of the Islamic Economics Study Program at FEB USU to not merely participate in international conferences, but to actively contribute to the advancement of Islamic economics and finance scholarship at the global level.
SAKİNAH TÜRKİYE 2026 will feature a number of speakers and academics from Indonesia, Türkiye, and the United Kingdom. Among the speakers listed in the conference's promotional materials are Dr. Aam Slamet Rusydiana of Sakarya University, Dr. Fadul Imansyah of the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH), Prof. Dr. H. Nasaruddin Umar, M.A., and Prof. Mehmet Asutay of Durham University, United Kingdom.
Expanding the Islamic Economics Academic Network
For the Islamic Economics Study Program at FEB USU, the collaboration with IAEI Türkiye holds significant importance in strengthening the program's internationalization efforts. In addition to providing lecturers with opportunities to present their research at an international forum, the initiative also serves as a platform for developing academic networks, fostering joint research, and creating opportunities for international publications.
The collaboration further strengthens the position of the Islamic Economics Study Program at FEB USU in establishing international partnerships with universities and academic organizations that share an interest in the development of Islamic economics and finance at the global level.
From USU to Sakarya University
The implementation of the activities at Sakarya University, Türkiye, represents an important opportunity for the Islamic Economics Study Program at FEB USU to introduce its academic and research capacities to the international academic community.
Under the cooperation agreement, the partner from Türkiye, Dr. Aam Slamet Rusydiana, is listed as a Lecturer in the Department of Islamic Economics and Finance, Faculty of Political Science, Sakarya University. The collaboration was formally established through an Implementation Arrangement signed on September 24, 2026, in Medan by the Dean of FEB USU, Dr. Abdillah Arif Nasution, and Dr. Aam Slamet Rusydiana as the representative of the partner institution.
Moving forward, this collaboration is expected to extend beyond conference activities and develop into broader cooperation in joint research, scholarly publications, academic exchanges, capacity building for students and lecturers, and the strengthening of the international Islamic economics and finance ecosystem.
The Islamic Economics Study Program's participation as an Official Co-Host Partner and the submission of five papers to SAKİNAH TÜRKİYE 2026 represent concrete steps by FEB USU's Islamic Economics Study Program to strengthen its internationalization and enhance USU's academic contribution to the global development of Islamic economics and finance.
This collaboration is also expected to contribute to the achievement of SDG 4: Quality Education; SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth; SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
