Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) through the USU Institute for Community Service (LPPM) implemented a community service program in Dolok Merawan Village, Serdang Bedagai Regency, North Sumatra. Community service is a Tridharma of Higher Education task that must be carried out by every academic community. On this occasion, the implementing team of this community service activity was chaired by a Lecturer from the Faculty of Economics and Business USU (FEB USU), Dr. Fadli, S.E., M.Si, along with an implementing member, Paidi, S.E., M.Si who also came from FEB USU. On this service opportunity, the implementation team also involved five FEB students to apply the knowledge they had gained while assisting in various partner activities.

The partner of the implementation of this service is the Welding Workshop "Putra Mandiri" which is located in Dusin I, Jl Pemuda Dolok Merawan Village. In terms of operations and innovation, partners experience many obstacles due to inadequate equipment for various production activities so that the work that has been carried out has not been optimal. Partners have developed a simple stove made from used oil that can be used to help other businesses such as selling grilled meatballs, but the results are not optimal due to the limited equipment available.

The chief executive of the service, Dr. Fadli, S.E., M.Si., stated that to obtain optimal results or outputs, good inputs are also needed in accordance with the GIGO concept (good input, good output). "To improve the quality of production and support the partner's economy, it is necessary to improve the quality of partner production equipment," said the chief executive as well as the Dean of FEB in an interview with the FEB USU public relations team. In an effort to solve the problems faced by partners, the team implementing the service activities plans to provide many updates to partner equipment, ranging from various types of drills, copressors to pipe bending to support production activities. This equipment provides access to partners to produce products and production activities that previously could not be done by partners.

"In an effort to support good input, a process is also needed that can optimize the function of input to produce output," said the service implementation team, Paidi S.E., M.Si. Therefore, this service is not only providing better equipment support, but also related to the implementation of business management and technology which is part of the process to manage these inputs. Training and assistance in business management and the separation of business finances from household finances were delivered through the implementation of this service activity. The team also conveyed the importance of digitalization and digital marketing in the current era to reach a wider market. The FEB USU student team was prepared to provide assistance as well as a learning process in the field to provide opportunities for the application of scientific studies in the field world later.

A series of service activities to solve partner problems were carried out starting from socialization of business management and marketing activities held on Friday (22/07) to partner business groups. In an effort to optimize the transfer of knowledge carried out, FEB USU students provide regular assistance to the Putra Mandiri welding workshop during the July - October period as part of off-campus learning for students.

In line with the plan to solve partner problems, the service implementation team directly provides production support equipment to partners to improve the quality and creativity of the production of workshop products. The implementation team believes that the workshop activities of the partners are not only repairing, but also producing products that provide added value and economic value in the future. Along with the development of the business, it is also expected to help the absorption of local community labor. The implementation team delivered equipment such as Hyper Hand Drill, R/7, Sitting Drill, Compressor and mini Compressor, Spraygun, Electric Welding Transformer, Grenda, Welding Handlebar, Pipe Bending and Seated Baiks as a form of equipment support to partners. The implementation team visited the partners again to see the progress of the partners on Friday (21/10) as well as to see the use of the equipment provided to the partners.

"We are very grateful to the team from USU for the visit, assistance, and learning that has been given to us, we will make the best use of it and continue to build our workshop, "Putra Mandiri", and continue to create better. We are ready to build innovation together with USU," said Edi Winata as the business owner, representing the Putra Mandiri welding workshop with gratitude. Gratitude was also expressed to the Universitas Sumatera Utara and the USU Community Service Institute for their support for the service program provided. Hopefully this activity can continue to be sustainable in fostering, empowering, and developing the community. "Furthermore, we will evaluate the success and achievement of the service partners, if the results are very satisfying, we will propose it as a priority program for USU service in the following year." Dr. Fadli said enthusiastically.
