Medan – The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FEB USU), continued its International Summer Course 2026 activities through a field trip to the TB Silalahi Center Museum in Balige, Toba Regency, North Sumatra, on Saturday (October 31, 2026).
The visit was part of an experiential learning program designed to provide participants with opportunities to explore the historical, cultural, and local heritage of North Sumatra, particularly Batak culture. Through this activity, participants were introduced to the cultural values and historical significance that shape regional identity and offer opportunities for sustainable economic and tourism development.
Beyond gaining insights into local cultural heritage, the visit also served as a contextual learning experience, allowing participants to explore the relationship between cultural preservation, tourism development, and regional economic growth. This firsthand experience is expected to broaden their perspectives on the importance of preserving cultural identity while maximizing local potential in an increasingly globalized world.
This activity supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) through experiential learning, SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) through exposure to local economic and tourism potential, and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) through the appreciation and preservation of cultural heritage.
Through this field trip, FEB USU hopes that participants of the International Summer Course 2026 will gain not only academic knowledge but also meaningful cultural experiences and a deeper understanding of North Sumatra's potential in supporting sustainable development and creating opportunities at the global level.
