Medan, Friday, July 24, 2026 – The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FEB USU), conducted a Socialization on Research Credit Point Calculation Proportions as part of its commitment to enhancing lecturers' understanding of the latest policies concerning professional development and academic career advancement. The event was attended by lecturers across FEB USU and featured presentations followed by interactive discussion sessions.
The socialization was based on the Decree of the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia Number 39/M/KEP/2026 concerning Technical Guidelines for Professional Development and Academic Career Services for Lecturers, which serves as the primary guideline for lecturer performance management, credit point assessment, and academic rank promotion.
During the session, the speakers presented several key aspects of the new regulation. One of the main topics discussed was the Credit Point System, which governs the transition and integration from the previous system to the new framework. This system includes the implementation of integration credits, conversion credits, and achievement credits as the basis for evaluating lecturers' academic performance.
The participants also received detailed information regarding the publication requirements for academic promotion. Under the new regulation, lecturers applying for promotion to the rank of Associate Professor (Lektor Kepala) are required to publish in an internationally reputable journal ranked at least Q3, while applicants for the rank of Professor must publish in an internationally reputable journal ranked at least Q2, serving as both the first author and corresponding author.
In addition, the regulation introduces the opportunity for two-level academic promotion (accelerated promotion) for lecturers demonstrating exceptional achievements or outstanding dedication. Eligibility includes accomplishments such as supervising students who achieve international recognition, obtaining recognized patents, or making other significant academic contributions.
Furthermore, participants were informed about the competency assessment process, which includes portfolio verification and competency evaluation for lecturers seeking academic promotion. These procedures are intended to ensure that all applicants meet the required academic standards in accordance with national regulations.
Through this socialization program, FEB USU expects all lecturers to gain a comprehensive understanding of the updated policy, enabling them to prepare their credit point submissions effectively while strengthening research performance and supporting sustainable academic career development.
