The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held an audience as part of an initial exploration of academic cooperation with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) on Monday (September 28, 2026).

The activity was part of FEB USU's efforts to expand international cooperation, particularly in developing double degree and joint degree programs between FEB USU and UKM. Through this exploration, the two institutions are expected to explore opportunities for academic collaboration that provide benefits for students and the development of higher education.

In addition to the audience, the activity was also related to a student exchange program involving FEB USU students. Several students also departed to participate in academic activities at UKM as part of their international learning experience.

Three students recorded as participating in the program were from the Undergraduate Program in Development Economics (EP), namely:

  1. Dionesius Aprian Nainggolan — 23050172
  2. Evelyn Theo Cristy — 230501057
  3. Yesaya Lowly Simarmata — 230501118

This student exchange program is expected to provide students with opportunities to gain academic experience in an international environment while broadening their knowledge and networks with students and the academic community in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, the exploration of double degree and joint degree cooperation serves as an initial step toward opening opportunities for the development of joint educational programs between FEB USU and UKM. The cooperation is expected to be followed up through further discussions and coordination between the two institutions.

The activity reaffirms FEB USU's commitment to strengthening the internationalization of education and providing more opportunities for students to gain academic experience at the international level.

This activity also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. Through the exploration of double degree, joint degree, and student exchange programs, FEB USU seeks to expand students' access to international learning experiences, improve academic competencies and global perspectives, and build cross-border educational networks. Meanwhile, the collaboration between FEB USU and UKM serves as a form of strengthening partnerships between higher education institutions in sharing knowledge, experience, and academic opportunities. This effort is in line with FEB USU's commitment to supporting the internationalization of higher education and creating a collaborative, inclusive academic environment oriented toward developing the quality of human resources.
