This program was conducted to provide education and assistance to 17 assisted MSMEs regarding the importance of IPR and Halal Certification, trademark checking, preparation of administrative documents, registration through the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) system, and submission of Halal Certification applications through SIHALAL. The finalization of the Community Service Program at UPT PLUT KUMKM of Riau Province was funded through USU Non-PNBP for the 2026 Fiscal Year and involved students from USU and Universitas Riau (UNRI).
Technical assistance was carried out on July 2, 2026, followed by assistance for regular Halal Certification on July 6, 2026. The finalization and evaluation stage was conducted on July 20, 2026, at the Office of UPT PLUT KUMKM of Riau Province.
This Community Service Program received support from UPT PLUT KUMKM of Riau Province, led by Tresiana Anomsari, S.T., M.T., which contributed to the provision of MSME data, participant coordination, activity facilities, and administrative support.
This activity is in line with the commitment of FEB USU to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, through continuous efforts to improve the quality of education by implementing this Community Service Program and providing education on the importance of obtaining IPR and Halal Certification, trademark checking, preparation of administrative documents, registration through the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) system, and submission of Halal Certification applications through SIHALAL.
This effort also supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being through education and assistance provided by the FEB USU Community Service Team to 17 assisted MSMEs on strategies for developing their businesses and improving their competitiveness. For MSMEs that do not yet have IPR and Halal Certification, the program facilitates the process of obtaining IPR and Halal Certification to provide legal certainty in protecting products and increasing consumer trust, thereby contributing to the welfare of MSME owners.
This effort also supports SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through strengthened collaboration among Universitas Sumatera Utara, Universitas Riau, and UPT PLUT KUMKM of Riau Province, with the aim of assisting 17 MSMEs in obtaining IPR and Halal Certification. Of the 17 targeted MSMEs, 15 received assistance in registering IPR in the form of trademarks, and all of them completed their submissions to DJKI. Meanwhile, two MSMEs received assistance with Halal Certification. One MSME has successfully obtained a halal certificate, while one MSME producing pineapple vinegar is still in the process of completing its certification.
