The Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Sumatera Utara (FEB USU), in collaboration with the Regional Office of the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) 1, successfully organized a workshop and meet-and-greet event themed "The Role of LPS."
The event, held on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the Prof. Dr. Suhadji Hadibroto Hall, USU Campus, Medan, was attended by 138 academics from 30 universities, including institutions outside Medan, such as Universitas Efarina and Universitas Simalungun. This collaboration aimed to strengthen the synergy between academics and LPS in promoting financial literacy among the public.
Dr. Amlys Syahputra Silalahi, Vice Dean I of FEB USU, highlighted the vital role of academics in educating students about financial institutions, including LPS. He emphasized that education about LPS could help increase public trust in the banking sector. He says the collaboration between academics and LPS represents a strategic move toward broader financial literacy.
In his speech, Mr. Muhamad Yusron, Head of Regional Office 1 of LPS, expressed gratitude to participating academics. He elaborated on LPS's critical role in maintaining the stability of the national financial system alongside Bank Indonesia, the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and the Ministry of Finance. One of LPS's primary functions is to guarantee customer deposits of up to IDR 2 billion per depositor per bank.
The workshop also featured educational material presented by Mr. Pramuji Novri Harlyanto, Head of the LPS Education Division, who explained the terms and conditions for deposit guarantees using simulation-based approaches. Dr. Paidi, S.E., M.Si., led a teaching resource forum to enrich academic teaching materials on LPS.
Discussions on bank resolution also garnered attention during the event. Mr. Suprianto, Acting Head of Bank Resolution Implementation Division II, provided insights into LPS's role in addressing problematic banks, especially following the enactment of the Financial Sector Development and Strengthening Law (P2SK). This legislation enables LPS to be more proactive, from revitalization to bank resolution.
This activity begins a sustainable collaboration between FEB USU and LPS. This synergy will support improved teaching quality and public understanding of LPS's duties, functions, and roles. This partnership is expected
