Lecturers of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sumatra Utara conducted international service activities as a form of implementation of the cooperation agreement between FEB USU and the Consulate General in the fields of Education, Social and Culture. The implementation of this activity includes two service activities, namely building a conducive reading space and building literacy and interest in reading students from an early age. These two activities are a series of activities for the 70th Anniversary of the Universitas Sumatera Utara which carries the internationalization of USU in the implementation of international activities.
FEB USU lecturers, Monika Andrasari, S.E., M.Si and Ishbir Mujahid Adha, S.E., M.Si guided a series of events to socialize reading interest and reading literacy to students in grades 6A and 6B of Sekolah Indonesia Johor Bahru. In this activity, Lucky Satria Pratama, SE, M.Si was also invited as a resource person to build students' interest in reading. "Reading is not tied to textbooks alone. Start reading from what we like. Set aside 15 minutes of reading time every day to build a reading culture. We as teachers also have an important role in building reading interest and reading literacy of the nation's children," said lucky delivering socialization material at the event. Lecturer of Development Economics Study Program, Yola Anggia SE, M.Ec., also added the important role of reading in building Indonesia in the future.
The socialization event was combined with simple games that stimulated the reading interest and curiosity of the SIJB students. The program guide prepared interactive questions and gave prizes to students who managed to answer correctly or do the challenges about reading interest given. "Cool, everyone loves to read and keep reading," said the activity implementation team, Dewi Ratna Sari Simatupang, S.E., M.Si., closing the activity.
FEB USU also helps to provide a library as well as a reading room for students at SIJB. "We prepare assistance, not only supporting the digitization of works, but also introducing the nation's works and interesting books to build students' interest in reading," said Sukma Hayati Hakim SE, M.Si., in conveying the concept of the reading room. The prepared room is also beautifully arranged so that reading activities in the future will become an increasingly enjoyable activity. "Creativity is born from the extraordinary ideas of the nation's children. This reading room is made interesting to build the creativity of younger siblings in the future," said Arif Qaedi Hutagalung as a representative of the Entrepreneurship Study Program in this activity.
