Deli Serdang – The Undergraduate Program in Management, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FEB USU), organized a "Lecturer Scientific Publication Mentoring Workshop" on Monday, October 5, 2026, at Tom’s Jungle, Deli Serdang, starting at 09:00 WIB. The workshop was attended by lecturers from the Undergraduate Program in Management, FEB USU, as part of ongoing efforts to increase academic capacity and the quality of scientific publications.

Scientific publication represents a key output of higher education's Tridharma, particularly in research. Publishing in reputable journals, especially Scopus-indexed international journals, develops scientific knowledge, supports academic career advancement for lecturers, and enhances the reputation of both the study program and institution nationally and internationally.

Publishing in reputable journals requires a firm grasp of the research and article writing stages. Lecturers must be able to identify research gaps, formulate novelty, conduct systematic literature reviews, structure manuscripts according to scientific writing standards, and select target journals matching the article's scope and quality. Additionally, understanding submission processes, peer review, and revision is essential for authors.

To support this capacity building, the workshop featured Dr. Muhammad Dharma Tuah Putra Nasution, S.E., M.M. from the Master's Program in Management Sciences, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sumatera Utara, as the speaker. Lecturers received guidance on literature searching and review, manuscript development, target journal selection, and strategies for preparing articles for publication in reputable journals.

The workshop aimed to strengthen lecturers' understanding of scientific publication standards and strategies, improve skills in identifying research gaps and novelty, and assist in refining manuscripts currently under preparation for publication. The mentoring is expected to encourage faculty members to follow through with their prepared manuscripts to the publication stage.

Hosting this workshop reflects the commitment of the Undergraduate Program in Management FEB USU to building a sustainable research and scientific writing culture. Enhancing lecturer competency in producing quality publications is expected to strengthen the program's contribution to management science and elevate the quality of Tridharma execution.

This Lecturer Scientific Publication Mentoring Workshop supports the achievement of SDG 4: Quality Education, specifically through efforts to enhance academic capacity and competence among lecturers to strengthen higher education quality. Mentoring in scientific publication assists faculty members in developing research, academic writing, and knowledge dissemination skills through reputable journals, contributing to an academic environment that fosters learning quality and sustainable scientific development.

Through this initiative, the Undergraduate Program in Management FEB USU hopes that lecturers will be increasingly motivated to improve the quality and quantity of scientific publications and reinforce the research culture within the study program, thereby supporting academic quality and the reputation of Universitas Sumatera Utara nationally and internationally.

This academic development workshop directly aligns with Sustainable Development Goals SDG 4 (Quality Education) by upgrading higher education research capacities and academic standards, and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by fostering scientific research and knowledge dissemination in economic and management sciences.
