The 27th National Accounting Symposium held in Bengkulu served as a strategic forum to strengthen the character of accountants with an SDGs perspective, with active participation from Universitas Sumatera Utara.
The 27th National Accounting Symposium was held on October 16–18, 2024, in Bengkulu under the theme “Building the Character of Accountants with an SDGs Insight to Welcome Golden Indonesia 2025.” The event brought together academics, practitioners, and students from various universities across Indonesia to discuss the strategic role of accountants in supporting sustainable development toward Indonesia Emas 2045.
A delegation from the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sumatera Utara participated in the event, consisting of Dr. Rina Br. Bukit, S.E., M.Si., Ak., CA; Munawarah, S.E., M.Si; Dr. Agung Wahyudhi Atmanegara, S.E., M.Si; Prof. Erlina, S.E., M.Si., Ph.D., Ak., CA, CMA; Prof. Dr. Iskandar Muda, S.E., Ak., M.Si., CA, CSRS, CSRA; and Dr. Abdillah Arif Nasution, S.E., M.Si., Ak., CA., QGIA, CHRS. The student participants included Dastin Naufal and Putri Veronika Ambarita from the undergraduate accounting program, as well as Fenny Julistine Tarigan from the master’s accounting program. The delegation actively engaged in the full series of academic sessions throughout the symposium.
On the first day, the event featured poster festivals and parallel sessions, along with academic forums discussing sustainability-based curriculum implementation and the internationalization of accounting study programs. The second day included the official opening ceremony, a keynote speech by Agusman from the Financial Services Authority, and international sessions discussing the role of accountants in sustainability implementation. Panel discussions also highlighted the contribution of the accounting profession to achieving SDGs toward Indonesia Emas 2045.
In the parallel sessions, students from FEB USU, namely Dastin Naufal, Putri Veronika Ambarita, and Fenny Julistine Tarigan, participated as paper presenters, reflecting active student involvement in national-level academic research.
On the final day, participants joined a city tour of Bengkulu as part of a cultural experience. Through participation in this symposium, it is expected to strengthen the role of academics and students in advancing sustainability-based accounting knowledge and enhance collaboration between universities and practitioners in supporting national development.
