The 24th National Accounting Symposium (SNA XXIV) held at Universitas Jambi served as a strategic forum to enhance the contribution of accounting educators through high-quality research in supporting Sustainable Development Goals in Indonesia.

In an effort to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals in Indonesia through high-quality research, the Indonesian Institute of Accountants – Accounting Educators Compartment (KAPd IAI) held the 24th National Accounting Symposium (SNA XXIV) on October 27–29 at Universitas Jambi.

SNA is an annual research forum that consolidates the role of accounting educators across Indonesia in producing high-quality research. The symposium aims to enhance the contribution of accounting academics in developing research that is relevant to national development.

The theme of this year’s SNA was “Sailun Salimbai Membangun Negeri, Akuntan Pendidik Siap Berperan untuk Mewujudkan Sustainable Development Goals,” which aligns with Indonesia’s G20 Presidency agenda focusing on global economic recovery and sustainable growth. This momentum provides an opportunity for Indonesia to strengthen its leadership in addressing global economic challenges, including post-pandemic recovery and resilience against future economic shocks.

One of the initiatives introduced by the Indonesian Institute of Accountants is the establishment of the Task Force Comprehensive Corporate Reporting IAI, which is responsible for preparing the implementation of sustainability reporting in Indonesia to enhance transparency and accountability.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the National Board of the Indonesian Institute of Accountants emphasized the importance of utilizing digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and the internet of things to accelerate national economic development. He also highlighted that research outputs should provide strategic recommendations to the government in improving public welfare.

The symposium was attended by hundreds of participants from various universities across Indonesia, with numerous selected papers presented and published. The event also involved stakeholders from government institutions and related sectors.

The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sumatera Utara, also participated in this event. One of its representatives, Prof. Erlina, served as a reviewer in the parallel sessions, providing evaluation and feedback on the presented papers.

Through this symposium, it is expected that the resulting research will contribute significantly to sustainable development and strengthen the role of accounting educators in Indonesia.
