On March 20, 2024, S. Hadibroto Hall, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FEB USU) witnessed an inspiring collaboration between ProAksi USU and BAZNAS North Sumatra. The event entitled "Optimization of Zakat Collection through BAZNAS" was attended by various groups, from students to practitioners of Islamic economics. This program was officially opened by the Dean of FEB USU, Dr. Fadli and attended by the Chairman and Secretary of the Accounting Study Program, Dr. Rina Br. Bukit and Mrs. Risanty along with lecturers of the Accounting Study Program FEB USU.

With a theme that is relevant to the demands of the times, the program aims to explain the important role of the Badan Amil Zakat Nasional (BAZNAS) in optimizing zakat collection in Indonesia. As the main speaker, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hatta, Head of BAZNAS North Sumatra and Islamic economist, provided in-depth insight into effective strategies in managing zakat funds through BAZNAS.
In his presentation, Prof. Dr. H. Mohammad Hatta discussed various important aspects, ranging from professional zakat management to the use of technology in facilitating the process of collecting and distributing zakat to those who are entitled to receive it. He highlighted the importance of transparency and accountability in maintaining public trust in zakat management institutions.

The discussions that took place during the event also enriched the participants' understanding of the role of individuals and institutions in increasing public awareness of the importance of fulfilling zakat obligations. In addition, the active participation of ProAksi USU in the program is an important momentum in garnering cooperation between stakeholders in an effort to improve the welfare of the people.

With the success of this event, it is hoped that the spirit to continue to contribute to optimal zakat management can continue to grow, so that the impact can be widely felt by people in need. The collaboration between ProAksi USU and BAZNAS is expected to be an example for other institutions to participate in strengthening the role of zakat in sustainable socio-economic development.
