The Management Study Program of the Faculty of Economics and Business of USU proudly held the International Summer Course 2024, which took place from August 19 to 25, 2024, and continued on September 5, 2024. This activity, which carries the theme “Advanced Feasibility Study—Theory and Practice in Palm Oil Industry,” aims to provide an in-depth understanding of business feasibility studies, especially in the palm oil industry.
The event was opened with a warm welcome from the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Dr. Fadli SE. M.Si, and the Head of Management Study Program, Mrs. Khaira Amalia Fachrudin. In their remarks, they appreciated all participants and speakers who attended in person and online, including renowned academics from Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Oman, Ireland, and Romania.
Two hundred forty-six students from various countries attended the International Summer Course 2024, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, India, Pakistan, the Ivory Coast, Sudan, and Gambia. Seven international students attended in person in Medan, while the others followed online.
The program consisted of lectures, field trips, and project presentations. From August 19 to 22, the participants attended intensive lectures delivered by experts in business feasibility studies and financial management, focusing on applying theory in the palm oil industry. The lectures were conducted using a hybrid method, allowing participants to attend in person at USU or through the Zoom platform.
On August 23, participants were invited to visit PTPN IV Kebun Adolina, where they observed real practices in the field and collected data essential for preparing a comprehensive feasibility study. In addition, from August 24 to 25, participants were invited to explore Bukit Lawang, a nature conservation area famous for its orangutan population, as part of recreational activities and environmental learning.
The event closed on September 5, 2024, with project presentations by the participants. The project is a group feasibility study report on a palm oil mill, which is one of the main outputs of the program.
The International Summer Course 2024 provides academic benefits, builds strong professional connections between participants, and enhances practical skills, including using Microsoft Excel for financial modelling. Each participant who completes the program will receive a transcript with three credits and a certificate of participation.
By organizing this event, the Faculty of Economics and Business of USU hopes to continue to pioneer management science development at the international level and make a real contribution to the palm oil industry in Indonesia.
