The Rector of the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si. inaugurated the USU Permanent Professor at the Student Arena on Monday, May 22, 2023.
The professor was Prof. Dr. Khaira Amalia Fachrudin, SE. Ak., MBA, CA, MAPPI (Cert) from the Field of Financial Management Sciences, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) USU.
The Rector of USU in his speech again highlighted the critical points of civilization that are being faced by humans, one of which is the learning crisis that has hit Indonesia since the last 2 decades based on PISA indicators.
"The test results show that there has been no significant improvement in the last 10-20 years and 70 per cent of 15-year-old students are below the minimum competency for reading and maths," he explained.
According to Prof. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si, a solution is needed to catch up with the lag. One of them is by carrying out a transformation that must involve all parties, including the contributions of professors.
"The Professor's contribution accelerates the transformation of USU, has a very important role to fulfill the performance of research, community service, publications, and innovation as well as its benefits for the development of the SDGs and the industrial world with international standards," said Prof. Mury.
The increase in the number of Permanent Professors at USU after the inauguration of Prof. Dr. Khaira Amalia Fachrudin, SE. Ak., MBA, CA, MAPPI (Cert) is expected to support USU in manifesting its commitment to the Tri Dharma of Higher Education service, one of which is dedication and contribution to overcome the problem of the education crisis in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Khaira Amalia Fachrudin, SE. Ak., MBA, CA, MAPPI (Cert) read his inaugural speech entitled "Digital Financial Literacy to Achieve Financial Well-Being". The content of his speech educated the public about financial management in the digital world.
According to him, as an academic, he is responsible for providing understanding in financial management both individually and as a company.
"Because I am from financial management, I will educate the public more so that they are digitally literate, literate, and have good financial decisions," he said.
Achievements of Prof. Dr. Khaira Amalia Fachrudin, SE. Ak., MBA, CA, MAPPI (Cert) to achieve the highest award title from this university is not easy. There are various long processes to be proposed to become a Professor, such as having writings or publications published in well-known journals.
"Because USU really needs professors, yes, many professors have retired. So we must immediately add more professors. So that everyone to be more passionate, who haven't, be passionate to achieve their goals soon," said Prof. Khaira.
