The Master's and Doctoral Program in Management Science, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FEB USU), successfully organized a Guest Lecture featuring Dr. Takahiro OTA, Associate Professor from Osaka University, Graduate School of Human Sciences, Environmental Coexistence Lab.
Held at Prof. Dr. Suhadji Hadibroto Hall, FEB USU, the event was attended by Master's and Doctoral students in Management Science and Economics, as well as academics and researchers interested in sustainability, environmental management, and sustainable development policies.
In his lecture entitled "How to Move on Integrated Carbon and Biodiversity Credit System", Dr. Takahiro OTA discussed the integration of carbon offset credit systems with biodiversity offset credit systems as an innovative approach to achieving environmental sustainability while supporting economic development. He highlighted the importance of balancing economic growth with ecosystem conservation through policy frameworks that promote responsible environmental management and long-term sustainability.
The session also provided a valuable platform for academic discussion and knowledge exchange. Participants actively engaged in exploring the challenges and opportunities associated with implementing carbon and biodiversity credit systems, particularly within the context of Indonesia's environmental and economic policies. The interactive discussion covered policy implications, international best practices, and potential applications of these concepts in supporting sustainable development at both national and global levels.
Through this guest lecture, the Master's and Doctoral Program in Management Science, FEB USU, continues to strengthen international academic collaboration and enrich the learning experience of students by providing direct access to global expertise. The activity is expected to inspire further research and innovation that contribute to addressing environmental challenges and advancing sustainable economic development.
This activity supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, by facilitating access to international academic knowledge and fostering critical discussions on sustainability issues. It also contributes to SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through academic collaboration between Universitas Sumatera Utara and Osaka University. Furthermore, discussions on ecosystem conservation, biodiversity protection, and sustainable environmental governance are closely linked to SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 2: Zero Hunger, and SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, as healthy ecosystems play a vital role in supporting livelihoods, food security, and human well-being.
