Medan, August 20, 2026 – The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FEB USU), continues to demonstrate its commitment to making meaningful contributions to society through Community Service activities. Lecturers and students from the Development Economics Study Program at FEB USU conducted a Community Service activity at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri (MIN) 9 Aceh Tamiang, Babo Village, Aceh Tamiang Regency, on Saturday, August 8, 2026. The activity focused on restoring the school library, which was affected by flooding.
The Community Service activity involved FEB USU lecturers, namely Dr. Dra. Raina Linda Sari, M.Si., Dr. Monika Andrasari, M.Si., and Widya Sartika Hasibuan, S.E., M.Ec. A number of Universitas Sumatera Utara students also actively participated in the activity, contributing to the restoration and reorganization of the library affected by the disaster.
The restoration of the library was an important effort to help re-establish a comfortable learning environment and support educational activities for students at MIN 9 Aceh Tamiang. The presence of the Community Service team not only provided direct support for the restoration of educational facilities but also reflected the concern and commitment of the USU academic community toward communities affected by disasters.
The involvement of lecturers and students in this activity represents the implementation of the university's Three Pillars of Higher Education (Tridarma Perguruan Tinggi), particularly in the area of community service. For students, the activity also provided a valuable contextual learning experience to develop social awareness, collaboration skills, and sensitivity to various challenges faced by the community.
FEB USU recognizes that higher education institutions play a strategic role not only in producing academically excellent graduates but also in providing meaningful contributions and solutions to society. Through community service activities such as this, academic knowledge and competencies can be directly applied to support communities, particularly in sustaining educational activities in the aftermath of disasters.
The restoration of the MIN 9 Aceh Tamiang library also reinforces FEB USU's commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, through efforts to support a proper and sustainable learning environment. The activity also aligns with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through collaboration between the academic community and local communities in creating meaningful benefits for the educational environment.
Through the active involvement of lecturers and students in community service activities, FEB USU continues to promote the implementation of the Three Pillars of Higher Education, ensuring that higher education not only focuses on academic and scientific development but also contributes to creating positive and sustainable impacts for society.
