The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), through the Undergraduate Program in Accounting, once again organized an international-scale academic activity as part of the Proaksi International Workshop Series III. The event carried the theme Systematic Literature Review Writing Workshop with a focus on “Emerging Trends in Accounting, Technology, and Environmental Social Governance (ESG)”, aiming to strengthen research capacity and enhance the quality of scientific publications among academics.
This international workshop was held on October 6–7, 2025, starting at 09:00 WIB, at the Prof. Dr. Suhadji Hadibroto Hall. The event featured an international academic, Mujeeb Saif Mohsen Al-Absy, Ph.D., from Gulf University, Bahrain, as the keynote speaker. On this occasion, he shared knowledge and experience regarding the application of the systematic literature review method in research, particularly in the field of accounting and related disciplines.
This activity is part of FEB’s commitment to encouraging the improvement of research quality and the development of academic capacity for lecturers, students, and young researchers. Amid the increasingly dynamic development of knowledge, the ability to conduct systematic literature reviews has become one of the essential skills in producing high-quality, comprehensive research with strong academic contributions.
The systematic literature review method itself is a research approach that emphasizes the process of identifying, evaluating, and synthesizing scientific literature in a structured and transparent manner. This approach allows researchers to map the development of a field of study, identify research gaps, and formulate future research directions. Therefore, mastery of this method has become increasingly relevant in supporting the improvement of scientific publication quality, particularly in reputable national and international journals.
Through this workshop, participants gained a comprehensive understanding of the stages of preparing a systematic literature review, ranging from strategies for searching literature in scientific databases, the process of selecting and evaluating articles, to techniques for analyzing and synthesizing research findings. In addition, participants were introduced to various supporting tools and methodological approaches that can facilitate the literature review process in a more systematic and efficient manner.
Participants took a group photo with the speaker, Mujeeb Saif Mohsen Al-Absy from Gulf University, Bahrain.
Not only focusing on methodological aspects, the workshop also discussed various emerging trends in accounting research, particularly those related to the development of digital technology and issues concerning Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG). This topic has become increasingly significant as global academic communities and business practices place greater emphasis on sustainability, transparency, and corporate social responsibility.
The presence of an international speaker in this event was expected to provide a global perspective while enriching participants’ academic insights into the development of research at the international level. Furthermore, this activity also served as a strategic platform to expand academic networks and open opportunities for research collaboration among higher education institutions globally.
Through the implementation of Proaksi International Workshop Series III, the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Sumatera Utara reaffirmed its commitment to building a strong academic culture, encouraging research productivity, and enhancing the quality of scientific publications among its academic community. This activity is expected to become a platform for learning and inspiration for researchers to continue developing innovative, relevant, and impactful research for the advancement of knowledge and professional practice in the field of accounting.
