The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universita Sumatera Utara (FEB USU) held a seminar and public lecture at the Hall of Prof. Dr. Suhadji Hadibroto FEB USU, Medan on Wednesday, June 14, 2023. This event carries the theme "The Role of the Deposit Insurance Corporation to Increase Depositor Trust" which was held in collaboration between the Faculty of Economics and Business USU and the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS). This event was held to convey to academics in Medan City regarding deposit guarantee programs by LPS and the new mandate of LPS in the Law on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector (Law P2SK). The participants of this activity amounted to 253 from students from various campuses in Medan City.

The seminar and public lecture were opened directly by the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business USU, Dr. Fadli, S.E., M.Si., he believed that the financial sector has a very important role to accelerate the wheels of development in a region. The event was also attended by the Secretary of the Deposit Insurance Corporation, Mr. Dimas Yuliharto, and the Head of the LPS Strategic Management and Policy Formulation Office, Mr. Ridwan Nasution, who was also a resource person in the activity.

"Don't be afraid to save at the Bank, because our savings at the Bank are guaranteed," said Mr. Dimas introducing the role and function of LPS to the community. In his presentation, he also emphasized the 3T criteria that make public deposits at the Bank guaranteed, including (1) Recorded in the bank's books; (2) The deposit interest rate received by the customer does not exceed the LPS guarantee interest rate; and (3) Do not take actions that harm the bank, such as having bad credit. As long as these three criteria are met, public deposits will be guaranteed with a nominal deposit of Rp 2 billion per customer per Bank.

Mr. Ridwan Nasution delivered material related to the mandate of LPS and additional duties in the P2SK Law that has been passed. In his presentation, he conveyed the synergy between the Ministry of Finance, Bank Indonesia and the Financial Services Authority together with the Deposit Insurance Corporation in strengthening the financial sector in Indonesia. Currently, how to provide protection for insurance policies is being prepared where not many Indonesians understand about insurance.

Before the question and answer session began, Vice Dean 3 FEB USU, Dr. Paidi, S.E., M.Si., presented the results of a simple survey to all seminar participants. The survey results indicate that the majority of academics at the event are already aware that their deposits in the Bank are guaranteed. Unfortunately, there are still those who do not realize that the guarantor institution is LPS. There are still many people who do not know that the nominal guarantee is IDR 2 billion per customer per bank. The main source of information for the public, especially students, is Instagram. Important factors in people's decisions to save at the Bank are the completeness of transaction facilities and the existence of deposit guarantees.

The event continued with a discussion related to the 3T element where the guarantee nominal every 3 months was adjusted, what if at the time of the transition the interest set by the bank exceeded the guarantee nominal. The discussion continued with two-way communication between the resource persons and fellow students.

The closing was carried out with the announcement of recruitment from the Deposit Insurance Corporation to recruit the younger generation to join and build the nation with LPS.
