EVEREST 9 (Event for Young Researchers and Economics Students) on May 13–15, 2025. The theme is “ASEAN Youth Cooperation in Strengthening Human Resource Development for Sustainable Economic Development within the Framework of SDGs”

The 9th Event of Young Researchers and Economics Students (EVEREST 9) was successfully held by the Undergraduate Program in Development Economics, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FEB USU), from May 13–15, 2025. Themed "ASEAN Youth Collaboration in Strengthening Human Capital Development for Sustainable Economic Development within the SDGs Framework", the event served as an international collaborative forum bringing together students, academics, and professionals from across Southeast Asia.

As one of the flagship programs of the Development Economics Student Association (HMD-EP), EVEREST 9 aimed to foster the active role of youth in developing outstanding, innovative human capital oriented toward sustainable economic growth aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It also provided an essential platform for strengthening academic networks among ASEAN students and enhancing youth leadership and research capacity.

The highlight of the event—a seminar and academic presentation session—was held on May 14, 2025, at the USU Student Center and FEB USU International Smart Classroom. Distinguished international speakers included:

  • Dr. Wye Chung Khain (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia)
  • Mr. Tunggul Wicaksono (ASEAN Studies Center, Gadjah Mada University)
  • Mr. Martin Dodman (University of Valle d'Aosta, Italy)
  • Muhammad Ghazi Pradipta (Bank Indonesia)

Each speaker offered deep insights on strategies for human capital development, economic digitalization, and the role of youth in addressing global challenges.

The event welcomed over 480 participants from various universities in Medan and its surroundings, including USU, UNIMED, UINSU, UMSU, POLMED, UISU, and Universitas Al-Azhar Medan. Attendees included representatives from institutional partners such as Bank Indonesia and the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS), alongside FEB USU faculty and guests.

Beyond academic discussions, EVEREST 9 also featured policy outreach by national financial institutions, networking sessions, and cultural performances. Participants had the opportunity to present creative ideas, discuss sustainable economic solutions, and publish their scientific work in conference proceedings.

The event is expected to inspire ASEAN youth to actively participate in research and innovation while strengthening their roles in inclusive and sustainable regional and global development.
