Jesica Edelweis Purba, a student of the Undergraduate Program in Development Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FEB USU), has once again brought national recognition to the faculty. The 2023 cohort student successfully achieved First Place in the Kreasi Cipta Lagu Anak Nusantara (KELANA) competition.

Jesica received the award in the category of Indonesian Children’s Song Composition on the Value of Religious Discipline, presenting an original song entitled “Sebelum Makan” (Before Eating). The competition was organized by the Center for Character Strengthening under the Secretariat General of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology as part of a national initiative to reinforce character education among Indonesian children.

According to the official certificate, the Nusantara Children’s Song Composition Competition was held from 9–30 November 2024 and attracted participants from diverse educational backgrounds and regions across Indonesia. In her category, Jesica’s work was recognized for its effective delivery of religious character values through an educational, creative, and contextually relevant children’s song aligned with everyday life.

This achievement demonstrates that students of FEB USU excel not only in academic and development economics fields but also contribute meaningfully to the cultivation of national character values through artistic and cultural creativity. Jesica Edelweis Purba’s success reflects the multidimensional competencies of Development Economics students at FEB USU, supporting the broader goal of holistic human development in Indonesia.

The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sumatera Utara, together with the Development Economics Study Program, extends its sincere appreciation and congratulations for this outstanding achievement. It is hoped that this accomplishment will inspire other students to continue creating, excelling, and promoting the institution’s reputation at both national and international levels.
