Good news comes from the faculty members of the Development Economics Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FEB USU), namely Wahyu Sugeng Imam Soeparno, M.Si., Prof. Sirojuzilam Hasyim, and Dr. M. Syafii, who, together with co-author Sri Wahyuni, have officially published a reference book entitled “Economic Agglomeration and Regional Convergence.” The book was published by CV Dunia Penerbitan Buku, with ISBN 978-634-7663-77-1, and was first printed in June 2026.

Spanning more than 260 pages, this book seeks to address a fundamental question in regional economics: why do economic activities tend to be concentrated in certain regions, while other regions continue to struggle to catch up in terms of development? In the foreword, the authors emphasize that economic agglomeration can indeed generate efficiency, productivity, innovation, and regional competitiveness. However, if not properly managed, this phenomenon may instead widen interregional disparities, creating regions that become increasingly stronger while others find it more difficult to overcome their developmental lag.

The book discusses these issues from conceptual, theoretical, and applied perspectives through nine main chapters. With such comprehensive coverage, this book serves as an important reference for students, lecturers, researchers, development planners, and local governments concerned with issues of regional inequality and equitable development.

The topics and contents of this book are directly related to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
